Tanabata Festival

On July 7th every year, Tanabata festivals are held all over Japan. This year, Andy, Amanda, Yoko (our Japanese teacher), and I went to Toide, Toyama-ken to check out the festival. Andy and I wore benjins (like pajamas), and Amanda and Yoko wore yukatas (summer-style or less formal kimonos).

Andy, Amanda, and I in Yoko's house.Ribbons with wishes are hung on bamboo.

In less than a month, Yoko will be moving to Tonga! We're super sad!

Hey... Tonga!

wow now that will be a culture shock for her. Im from NZ and we have lots of Tongans here..i'm a Cook Islander...kinda like Tahiti but english speaking...anyway you must make sure you keep in touch with your friend. Even my Tongan friends who live here in New Zealand say its pretty hard work to be in Tonga!

it is VERY Christian and Tongan Royal family focussed...oh and on Friday and Saturdays they get WASTED big time...a typical pacific island nation with a crazy Royal Family twist.

I hope its just a holiday and she goes with her boyfriend? keep safe and have fun : )
